It's Friday the Thirteenth! AH! We highly suggest you stay indoors, wrap yourself in your finest Snuggie, and catch up on whatever guilty-pleasure programming you've picked as your poison -- because god knows that going out on such a weekend with such ominous beginnings would lead to certain disaster. Or you could just go out like any other weekend and have a blast with a live disco band and a Detroit techno veteran. Decisions, decisions.

Friday, August 13

What: Hercules and Love Affair, Party Effects, BT Magnum, and More
Where: Mighty
When: 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Why: Producer Andy Butler and his rotating cast of disco starlets were responsible one of 2008's biggest dance tunes, the Antony Hegarty-featuring "Blind."  Years later, Hercules and Love Affair are back in action with a new album entitled Blue Songs, set to be released in January, and a live performance of classically minded dance tunes ready to explode in the venues around the world. Thankfully, San Francisco is lucky enough to be included in the tour dates, and needless to say, this is a concert/dance party not to be missed. Make sure to also catch Oakland's Party Effects crew slanging jacking house beats, along with DJs BT Magnum and Aaron Axelsen doing all they can to keep you moving between live acts.

Saturday, August 14

What: No Way Back w/ Mike Huckaby, Solar, and Conor
Where: 222 Hyde
When: 9:30 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Why: It would appear that we just can't get enough of the eclectic parties thrown by DJ Conor and his band of jam-toting cronies. Whether it's the Sunday night Autobahn shindig, the one-off roller discos, his guest spots at Gemini Disco, or his monthly No Way Back jump-off, we just know following this guy's movements will likely lead us to a good party. For the August edition of No Way Back, the resident mixmasters nabbed Detroit techno/house veteran DJ/producer Mike Huckaby to spin a choice selection of his own classic tracks and personal favorites. As the No Way Back kids put it, "Mike brings the Detroit sound of deep house and techno with him. He knows the balance between deep house and techno like no other." Say "deep house and techno" one more time, and Huckaby might just appear.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
