Video of the Day: Sonny and the Sunsets Live on an Airplane

Posted By on Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 2:44 PM

Sonny and the Sunsets - Heart of Sadness from Yours Truly on Vimeo.

We're pretty damn excited about Sonny's Smith's "100 Records" project, where the jack-of-all-arts-trades created fictional bands and had real artists create the album covers (and real local acts help him record the songs). To get the bigger story on this project, which opens April 9 at Gallery 16, you can check out Marc Hawthorne's writeup this issue.

And to get a sense of Sonny as a songwriter, you can check out this video of an impromptu performance captured by local video wizzes Yours Truly. Because SXSW is such a clusterfuck of musicians and music industry types, it's typical that you'll have an entire airplane packed with people headed to the Austin shindig. As this clip shows, though, that can spark something surprisingly cool, such an an on-the-spot rendition of Sonny's "Heart of Sadness" on the airplane.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
