Thanks to an appearance in Zombieland (as well as showing up in Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy, and a popular soccer videogame), "Gold Guns Girls" has given Metric's year-old Fantasies a second wind. So the Canadian indie-pop act is back on the road supporting its first album since 2005's Live It Out

Frontwoman Emily Haines loads up on the sweet and sour, serving "Help I'm Alive" and "Gimme Sympathy" with a side of pout and bite. It's slippery, sexy stuff, mixing crunchy guitar riffs with skittering electronic buzzes. Like many of the band's Canadian compatriots, Metric is hit-or-miss when it comes to hooks. Still, the group is a lot more fun on record and onstage than Broken Social Scene, Stars, and Feist.

Metric performs tonight at the Fox Theater in Oakland (8 p.m., $25)

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
