One of my current favorite labels, New York's Woodsist (home to Woods and Real Estate) has been showing the Bay Area a lotta love.  After releasing 7"s and full-lengths by the Fresh & Onlys, Sic Alps, and Thee Oh Sees, the indie is helping the world hear new work by Moon Duo and The Art Museums. The latter is a new project by Josh Alper and Glenn Donaldson (Skygreen Leopards). It's being tagged as "nostalgic lo-fi," meaning it's a jangly bit of folk recorded as if off a record with lots of dust in the grooves.

The Art Museums' debut, Rough Frame, comes out this spring, but you can check out their first single--already getting on KUSF rotation--here. "Sculpture Gardens" is a soft-focus pop daydream about spending an afternoon talking about films, surrounded by art. Sounds good to me.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
