It's a shame to start the holidays with so much news about shopping when there are plenty of other ways to milk December for all its worth.

Personally, I'm a big fan of The Golden Girls - The Christmas Episodes. In the hands of comedic drag queens Cookie Dough, Matthew Martin, Pollo Del Mar, and my favorite, Hecklina, these legendary senior citizens of the small screen become extra sassy on stage. The show runs every Thurs., Fri., and Sat. from now until Dec. 26 (no shows on Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day) at Mama Calizo's Voice Factory. If you go, I'd suggest upping the cheer with an X-Mas cocktail at nearby Martuni's.

Live 105 starts its stretch of holiday music next week, hosting three different bashes featuring local and international talent. The big gig is Not So Silent Night on Friday, Dec. 11, when Muse, AFI, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Vampire Weekend, and Metric all perform at Oracle Arena in Oakland. Those tickets flew out the door, but the station is giving passes away on the air and through Twitter. There are also two smaller Live 105 warm up gigs earlier that week. On Wednesday, Dec. 9, Bimbo's hosts the Radio Soundcheck Holiday Ball with White Rabbits, The Lovemakers, Band of Skulls, The Downer Party, and DJ Aaron Axelsen. The following night, it's over to Mezzanine for NSSN Pre-Party with Hey Champ, Passion Pit, Gossip and DJ Aaron Axelsen.

El Vez, the Mexican Elvis, brings politics to the month of presents with his Viva Christmas! show on Thursday, Dec. 17 at the Independent

If you're counting down the days until you can get drunk, cause trouble, and blame it all on Saint Nick, the annual Santa flash mob Santarchy & Santacon invades San Francisco on Saturday, Dec. 12.

For more general winter-tainment, there's always ice skating (for those brave enough to want to let their ankles wobble precariously above a batch of ice). Yerba Buena has a rink, as does Embarcadero Center.

And, well, because you do sometimes need to shop for the holidays, it's always best to buy local. Indie Mart hosts its free happy hour holiday bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Independent.

That's the short list for now...feel free to add your suggestions for ways to be entertained in December below.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
