A little bit of news about a little side project: San Francisco's Wooden Shjips announced the arrival of a new Velvet Underground-ish offshoot. Moon Duo keeps the three D's (drone, distortion, dissonance) going but adds a little more melody in the two excerpts offered on the band's MySpace page. The songs "Love on the Sea" and "E-Z Street Ext" are off the debut Moon Duo 12" from Sick Thirst. The Shjips sail over to Bottom of the Hill July 11 for a show with Oneida and Jonas Reinhardt.

The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
