Get ready to see the world through prescription beer goggles on April 11, when the Nerd Nite tour hits SOMA--the very appropriate part of town considering its high high-tech geek concentration. Tagging itself "like the Discovery Channel with beer," the event has been touring the East Coast for a couple years. It now brings to our brainy city presentations about "real-life zombies, parasitic birds, corkscrewed duck phalluses, mating dances set to Michael Jackson, and...disgusting cuisines" from serious dweebs who have studied the stuff. And then there'll be a music component of really geeky indie rock by Overlord. Bring your near- and farsighted pals to Langton Labs a week from Saturday for all this, plus a performance by Brian Malow, Earth's premiere science comedian. Best thing about a night like this? If you think the entertainers are way too awkward, wimpy, or just plain suck, you can always kick their asses in the alley after school.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
