MP3 of the Day: The Verve

Posted By on Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 12:47 PM

For a band that built a career on strife, the Verve's absence from the Brit pop scene wasn't too surprising. But its re-emergence in recent times is definitely unexpected. (Perhaps Richard Ashcroft realized those solo records aren't gonna cut it with his fans). The Verve's new album, Forth, is out Aug. 26 and it's a return to form, with melodic guitar madness buffeting Ashcroft's nasally moan. The entire album is available for streaming through the group's MySpace page, but you can also download the track "Mover" (about Ashcroft's restless bedside manner) here. -- Jennifer Maerz

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
