Giant Robot is proud to present You Only Excist [sic] Because of Us, a group show featuring the work of Ryohei Tanaka, Ako Castuera, Sean Boyles, Joe To, and Rob Sato.

Ryohei Tanaka's versatile style has been seen everywhere from art galleries to store signage. Influenced by comics, graffiti, and fine art, he is able to dominate a variety of mediums, from drawings and paintings to paper-cuts and prints.

Ako Castuera depicts a hyper-colored, gravitiy-defying world that is somewhat terrifying but also super fun. When she is not making her own art, she is a character artist for the Metacopalypse animated TV series.

Applying his loose style to drawings, paintings, and even photos and videos, Sean Boyles has the ability to make carefully composed depictions of the street appear effortless. The aesthetic is not one of hardness or posing but life fully lived.

The illustrations of Joe To are full of energy, with rich and colorful figures popping out of stark white backround. The gallery setting will allow for depth that could not be conveyed by the art zines he has been associated with.

Paintings and illustrations by Rob Sato have been known to mix animals and humans in strange yet appealing ways. In addition to participating in numerous group and solo art shows since 2001, he received the prestigious Xeric Grant awarded to up-and-coming comic-book artists in 2004, allowing him to publish Burying Sandwiches.

A reception for the artists will be held from 6:30 - 10:00pm on Saturday, August 16th.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
