Last Night Photos: Air Guitar Regionals at the Independent

Posted By on Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 8:29 AM

Last night, sandwiched between the drunk and increasingly louder Air Guitar crowd and the edge of the Independent's stage, ASD photographer Gretchen Robinette and myself were spat upon (water bottle rock star move), thrown spaghetti at (one contestant pulled cooked noodles out of his...diapers) and generally had a grand 'ol time.

The girls next to us threw underwear on stage and booed loudly at judge Jennifer Maerz's (yes, THAT Jennifer Maerz!) very snarky remarks. "You better watch your back, blondie!" yelled one charming lady in Jen's general direction...probably the same chick who kept telling hunky host Bjorn Turoque to take his shirt off.

Before the show, Gretchen and I had the chance to interview a few of the contestants on camera backstage. Two of them - Shred Begley Jr. (pictured) and Captain Nowhere - made it to the top 6, and Shred actually came out on top! (Scores here.) Do we know how to pick 'em or what? Anyway, check back later today for the clips. Click the image (or here!) for Gretchen's shots of last night's action. --Janine Kahn

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
