New Emily Jane White video: Dagger

(Emily Jane White's last YouTube'd video, for "Wild Tigers I Have Known")

We're big fans of Emily Jane White here at the Weekly -- she made a couple staffers' best of 2007 list, and I'm thinking in 2008 people are going to take even more notice of this talented songwriter. She's also collaborated a couple times with another Santa Cruz indie star, director Cam Archer. White wrote the title track for Cam's moody drama about a gay teen, Wild Tigers I Have Known, and Cam in return has directed a couple of White's videos. The latest partnership between the two is the video for “Dagger,” which Archer directed and which stars actress Lindsey Beamish (also from UC Santa Cruz, and who acted in Shortbus). Such a stunningly sad song, definitely one of my favorites off White's Dark Undercoat. Check out the "Dagger" video here. -- Jennifer Maerz

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
