The body of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. executive Steve Harrison, 54, was finally found in the Sacramento River Thursday, nine days after first being reported missing. The loss of Harrison, the brewery's VP of sales, is a terrible blow for the small town of Chico, where the formidable craft brewery has been cranking out fine beers since 1980.
While an early report pointed to possible suicide, noting that an "empty prescription container with Harrison's name on it" was found near the bank of the river, there's no official word yet on the cause of death. Friends of Harrison say it's possible he tumbled into the water on accident. An avid bicyclist, Harrison will have a new bikeway in Chico named in his honor.
Having consumed more than our fair share of delicious Sierra Nevada Pale Ale over the years, we'll be sure to pour a little out next time, for the homie who ain't here.
Incidentally, their Pale Ale is the second best selling craft beer in the U.S. behind Sam Adam's Boston Lager.
