Straight-up, old-fashioned, good-times rock ‘n’ roll: The Riverboat Gamblers have put years of sweat equity into delivering this specialty to the masses. Added bonus: These Texas punks are never ones to stand stoic or still through a show. Front man Mike Wiebe moves like a manic spider trying to escape grimy adolescent hands. He crawls all over the stage, the crowd, and his band mates, forging new haphazard pathways for every performance. Wiebe and crew ratchet up the energy levels wherever they go, and nearly every song becomes a sing-along both in terms of the catchy choruses and the fact that the singer thrusts his mike in the faces of any beaming fan within arms’ length. Celebrate summer with the Riverboat Gamblers tonight at Elbo Room, where they headline a five-band bill of punk rock.--Jennifer Maerz

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
