You Mean, Like a Tripod?

If the music of 3 Leg Torso were playing over a skillful low-angle tracking shot of you walking down the street, you'd either be a high-heeled Spaniard going to her illegitimate son's deathbed, or a determined child with a fistful of dollars bound for the forbidden chocolate shop. Take your pick: 3 Leg Torso encompasses many possibilities in its signature tango cartoon-carnival klezmer. Composers Béla Balogh and Courtney Von Drehle take their base instruments of cello, accordion, and violin, and add honky-clown-nose sounds, Bugs Bunny xylophone, upright bass, Moroccan percussion, and pretty much everything else. It's not as goofy as it sounds, either: These are highly trained professionals who layer a deep gloss over everything and swing ratchet-tight. Note to those of you who've been waiting for just the right little concert at which to bust out that 1960s Finnish government-researcher persona: This is definitely it.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
