We, the Guinea Pigs

Wednesday, Aug 7 2013

The Garage, tucked between antiques emporia and car repair shops on Bryant and Fifth, presents multiple dance and theater productions weekly on its cozy black-box stage and has launched many projects through its Resident Artists' Workshop. At the sixth annual Summer Performance Festival at ODC Theater, Garage artistic director Joe Landini showcases eight of the 120 choreographers who have participated in the Workshop, giving them the opportunity to develop their work for a larger theatrical venue. This year's performers include BodiGram, Jenni Bregman & Dancers, Aura Fischbeck Dance, Gretchen Garnett & Dancers, Angela Mazziotta, The Milissa Payne Project, Nine Shards, and Vinnicombe/Winkler, featuring comedic dance theater on "the ridiculousness of drinking," as well as works that question the American identity, the desire for home, the condition of being an outsider, hot-air balloon expeditions, and more, each fit in to a tight 40-minute production.

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
