VaRiety Broadcast

Wednesday, Oct 30 2013

Think of Cabinet of Wonders as a rock 'n' roll show, an evening of vaudeville and a literary reading all rolled into one. It will, as the series' sponsors at NPR like to say, "make you laugh, think and sing along." The show is usually broadcast (and podcast) live from City Winery in New York, but is currently on tour. Each episode brings together a motley cast of musicians, comedians, writers, entertainers and other random guests, curated and corralled by the writer Wesley Stace, who is also known as the musician John Wesley Harding. Recent episodes have featured goofy covers of Conway Twitty songs, a self-proclaimed bacon-eating vegan who lampooned Whole Foods, and a reading from Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Paul Harding. Tonight's show includes comedian Bobcat Goldthwait, John McCrea of Cake and the author and illustrator Lisa Brown, among others.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
