Drew Daniel is best known as one-half of local electronic heroes Matmos, an astonishingly diverse act that's both served as Björk's backing band and composed an entire album out of the sounds of surgery. Daniel's side project is the Soft Pink Truth , which began as a campy take on electro-disco for 2003's Do You Party? and has since evolved into a campy take on hardcore and punk, as evidenced by last year's Do You Want New Wave or Do You Want The Soft Pink Truth? Since then, Daniel has kept busy in the studio preparing the next Matmos release and crafting a slew of remixes; Franz Ferdinand and Fischerspooner are recent clients. On his Web site, Daniel gives a few good reasons to attend this upcoming concert: "This will be my last show for a long time as the Soft Pink Truth," he writes, "so if you were planning to denounce me in public, this would be the best time to do it." Noise rockers XBXRX and 7 Year Rabbit Cycle, and Ohio female electronic act 16 Bitch Pile Up will open when the Soft Pink Truth is proclaimed on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Bottom of the Hill; call 621-4455 or visit www.bottomofthehill.com for more info.
