Thuned Up

Seattle-born and L.A.-based Nick Thune is young and tall and white and has cute facial hair and a guitar. Despite all this he is pretty likable and funny, as you can see in his appearances on Conan and The Late Show With Jimmy Fallon or hear when he guests on podcasts like Comedy Bang-Bang! or You Made It Weird. He’s cited Steven Wright and Mitch Hedberg as influences, and it shows. Thune’s material, featured on his 2010 debut album Thick Noon, is full of one-line absurdisms and subtly clever plays-on-words. He strums acoustic guitar during his sets, which helps to unify the jokes that sometimes seem to come from left field, or even from another field altogether. The 33-year-old’s standup style could also be compared to Demetri Martin, except Thune has a beard.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
