The Hood Internet: Show Preview

Wednesday, Aug 25 2010

Chicago DJ and production duo the Hood Internet was not a pioneer of mashups, or "bastard pop," as the emerging genre was called circa 2001. ABX (Aaron Brink) and STV SLV (Steve Reidell) certainly did not create the form when they started their project in 2007. But surveying the blogosphere settlers who stitch together original party jams, the Hood Internet still makes some of the most distinctive mixes out there. The duo's forte is coupling indie rock and electronica loops with hip-hop rhymes, thereby avoiding novelty sound-splicing. Along with parlaying its hundreds of proven crowd-rockin' blends into exclusive mixtapes, the Hood Internet has also made original productions, such as the recent "Chi City" with Kid Static.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
