Spring Out of the Jungle

Wednesday, Feb 17 2010
"Tiger people are sensitive, given to deep thinking, capable of great sympathy. They can be extremely short-tempered, however." That's what the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco's Web site says about this year's babies, although it also specifies that not too many people take such horoscopes very seriously. At the Spring Festival Celebration, tigers — corporeal and mythological — are center stage, among children's arts and crafts, dance performances by Chung Ngai Lion (!) Dance Troupe, music, and above all in the lovely traditional watercolors of Master Kan Kwok Fan. Puzzles, tai chi, and lots more ring in the New Year — we imagine you've already heard there's a little parade going on this weekend, too.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
