"Peter Pan" 12-inch

Most rap crews put out a single first, before pressing up a whole album. Lawrence, Kansas, duo SoundsGood flipped the script, releasing the "Peter Pan" 12-inch a year and a half after the Joe Good & Miles Bonny Present ... CD. The single is a great sampler, taking the four best songs from the full-length: the insanely catchy, jangle-riffed "Peter Pan," the OutKastian thumper "Perpetual Motion," the psych-y sitar-fueled "Travelin' Music," and the sexy wake-up call of "In the Mornin'" (featuring the classic pickup line, "Do you like a little sausage with your scrambled eggs, girl?"). But that still leaves you without the "supercalifragilistic" chorus of "Bum Bum," the soul-jazz ghetto fabulousness of "Livin' Life," and the horn-y seduction of "Beautifool Day." Fans of the Jungle Brothers and Digable Planets -- i.e., those folks who dig layered happy-go-lucky lyrics, elastic vocals, and genre-spanning samples -- will be in hog heaven, whether they choose SoundsGood's vinyl appetizer or its aluminum entree.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
