If you've been hankering after sun-bleached sand and cerulean waters, rum in your drink and plantains on your plate, a sway in your hips and an undulation in your spine, get ready for the 10th annual CubaCaribe Festival of Dance and Music. For three weeks, contemporary, popular, and folkloric Caribbean music and dance take the stage at Dance Mission Theater, Laney College, and other locations throughout the Bay Area. The first weekend features six dance companies selected by CubaCaribe artistic director Ramon Ramos Alayo in a program called "Moving Forward" that challenges choreographers to draw connections between contemporary dance and traditional folk forms of the Caribbean diaspora. The second weekend focuses on the work of three companies, Alayo Dance, Aguas de Bahia, and Arenas Dance Company. Week three opens the floor to master classes in music and dance, lectures, workshops, and a special screening of the documentary Tengo Talento.

April 11-12, 8 p.m.; Sun., April 13, 3 & 7 p.m., 2014

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
