Pictureplane: Show Preview

Wednesday, Dec 28 2011

As Pictureplane, DJ Travis Egedy serves a most unusual purpose: He makes house music for punk and indie rock crowds. The Denver resident once characterized his work as "a kind of punk trance," but in reality, his ultra-synthy music is far better at taking you to some distant, exotic place. For evidence of what Egedy's ties to rock have yielded so far, consider his give-and-take relationship with Los Angeles noisemakers Health. In a remix of Health's "Die Slow," Egedy massaged the rough, industrialized track into something soft and sky-like; in return, the band added some sharp corners to his luminescent "Goth Star." It's in everyone's best interest that Egedy continue to strike up such fascinating friendships.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
