Patrick, Yeeeahh, Wooo!

Wednesday, Mar 11 2009
Behind the scenes with Saint Patrick: Real name: Maewyn Succat. Backstory: Was forced into slavery by Irish raiders (dude was British!). He later returned to Ireland as a missionary because, he wrote, "the Voice of the Irish … cried out, as with one voice: 'We appeal to you, holy servant boy, to come and walk among us.'" Both of these vital bits of information about green-beer rockstar Saint Patrick have been more or less cut and pasted directly from you-know-what-ipedia. Using that ecclesiastical trivia, you can now plainly see why today we celebrate Maewyn with tequila, marching bands, and pony rides at the St. Patrick's Day Festival and Parade. Kidding! In context, Mr. Patrick's day and its modern traditions make perfect sense and are a ton of fun, as you well know. Our local parade, for example, is the 158th annual celebratory promenade; so there are people watching from Colma to see that we do it right. Have a good time or else!

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
