New Giants of Comedy

"They say the hardest thing about rollerblading is telling your parents you’re gay." That's the opening salvo of a very funny video by Human Giant. You probably know nothing about the sketch troupe, given that its TV show rose to fame during an MTV block of programming in 2007 between Nick Cannon Presents: Short Circuitz and Three 6 Mafia's Adventures in HollyHood. But if the troupe exists in a bit of a cloud, one of its members doesn't -- Paul Scheer, the familiar gap-toothed, balding guy who made Best Week Ever just bearable enough to never turn off. The two other players are Aziz Ansari (soon to be seen in a feature film with Dwight from The Office) and fellow Best Week Ever refugee Rob Huebel. As Human Giant, they're unstoppable. The troupe's second season starts on MTV in March, but catch it live tonight, braced by the music of Voxhaul Broadcast and Magic Bullets.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
