Mogging for the Camera

Many have heard guitar-heavy instrumental band Mogwai without knowing it. By the time the Scots had released their soaring 2006 album Mr. Beast, their tunes had repeatedly blasted through CSI: Miami and wafted through Sex and the City. With their recent sixth album, The Hawk Is Howling, these indie faves faced the unenviable task of topping the absurdly good Beast. Judging from new tracks like the rugged guitar march "The Sun Smells Too Loud," they've come close. Opening this week's show is the charmingly named psychedelic noise/drone duo Fuck Buttons, whose intense debut Street Horrrsing will likely find little play on television soundtracks.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
