Mobius Band

City vs Country

Wednesday, Mar 16 2005
"Starts Off With a Bang," the first song from Mobius Band's debut EP for Ghostly International, might be a bit of a misnomer as far as titles go. See, MB doesn't ever really go bang. The sound it makes is usually more like a slither, one that sneaks into your consciousness slowly, with indie rock hooks that never quite reference their influences, but somehow always seem familiar. Don't mistake this lack of immediate explosiveness as an inability to rock, however, because Mobius Band has been winning over audiences for quite some time now by doing just that. Throughout City vs Country, the trio, now based out of New York, slaps psychedelic guitar lines and playful keyboards together with a tasteful hybrid of real and electronic drums. And unlike that other band (the one everyone seems to mention these days when electro-pop comes up), MB's choices of texture and arrangement never overshadow its gift for writing ultra-catchy pop songs.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
