Mascara and oOoOO: Show Preview

Who would have guessed that goths and hip-hoppers would find common ground? As improbable as this might seem, it's been a regular happening for the past couple of years at 120 Minutes. Every first Friday, the Elbo Room is transformed into a bleak environment complete with slowed-down bass, flashing lights, and a face-melting laser show. Black-clad revelers compete with b-boys for space on the floor as Skinny Puppy's industrial clang shifts seamlessly into the hyped-up trap of Wacka Flocka Flame. Celebrating its second anniversary this week, 120 Minutes returns to its roots with a special event, headlined by NYC-based witch house DJ Mascara and local "drag" (that's the musical genre, not the crossdressing) artist oOoOO. Join in on the "darkness and insanity."

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
