Mark Sultan: Show Preview

Let's observe a moment of silence for the King Khan & BBQ Show. For seven years, Arish "King" Khan and Mark Sultan (aka BBQ) made up one of the funniest, strangest, and filthiest musical duos in recent memory. The group's soiled presence added panache to its unhinged, fuzz-heavy '60s garage rock and tongue-in-cheek lyrics about bodily fluids and young love. After two chaotic concerts in Australia in summer 2010, the pair had, in Khan's words, "a huge screaming match," and ended the greatest team-up since Scooby-Doo and the Harlem Globetrotters. Nowadays, Sultan practices a similar sonic shtick on his own, performing as a one-man band and laying down one damaged rock song after another. Thankfully, Khan's absence hasn't affected Sultan's sick sense of humor, or his interest in public indecency.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
