Marc Romboy: Show Preview

A prolific figure on the German scene, Düsseldorf's Marc Romboy has been DJing, producing, and running labels for nearly two decades. After breaking out on the sounds of acid house, Romboy easily transitioned his interests in Chicago and Detroit's heritage to influence jackin' tech-house and other sounds. However, it's been with his second label, Systematic, that Romboy has championed the true depths of house music, building brooding minimalism into big-room bliss. Joining Romboy at his upcoming S.F. show is L.A.'s John Tejada, who also explores the many permutations of the 4/4 beat, locking it to its grid and stripping it to its bone, all while knowing exactly when to fleck it with staggering harmonics or frothy melodies. Finishing out the bill is Brazilian robofunk duo the Twelves.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
