Machine Gun Kelly: Show Preview

Wednesday, May 8 2013

When it comes to performance venues, Machine Gun Kelly's devil-may-care attitude has produced some immensely entertaining results. The 23-year-old Cleveland rapper born Richard Colson Baker got a big boost of publicity in August 2011 when he and a flash mob took over a mall food court in the Cleveland 'burb of Strongsville; the commotion led to him being hauled off in handcuffs. In April 2012, Kelly did his self-empowerment anthem "Invincible" at WWE WrestleMania XXVIII in Miami, and received a torrent of boos for backing polarizing do-gooder John Cena. Then, in October 2012, some dumbass at Microsoft in Atlanta had the idea to hire Kelly for an in-store appearance. The MC destroyed equipment, threw up middle fingers, and declared, "Fuck these computers and shit." There's dopeness and dopeyness alike to Kelly's pseudo-gangsta image, but his skill at rapping without giving a shit is genuinely charismatic.
