Lolcats IRL

Wednesday, May 1 2013
Some people work their whole lives as entertainers, but their acts never live up to the purity that is a cat-related pratfall. The Great Wall of Oakland is hosting an Internet cat video festival Saturday to benefit the East Bay SPCA. The highlight will be a showing of a 70-minute Internet cat video compilation, projected onto the great 100-foot wall. The Oakland festival begins in the afternoon with cat-themed crafts for kids and adults, feline-inspired music, aerial dancers, and kitties up for adoption. They’ll even have a featured ‘cat-meo’ from celebrity cat Dusty the Klepto Kitty, who became Internet famous for stealing an array of items (well, as much as any cat can steal things). If you missed him on the Internet, you may have seen Dusty’s appearance on David Letterman. If you missed him on David Letterman, there’s always YouTube. The fes-tival will last into the evening, when the cat video compilation will be screened.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
