Little Boots: Music Preview

Wednesday, May 1 2013

Is Little Boots a sugar-sweet pop-pixie, or an icy cool electro-elf? Truthfully, the British singer-songwriter and DJ is probably a little bit of both: She performed at last year's Folsom Street Fair, so she can't possibly be as innocent as she looks. Either way, she's returning to the Rickshaw Stop this weekend in support of her second full-length, Nocturnes, out May 6. Little Boots — real name Victoria Hesketh — is already hugely popular in her home country, thanks to her chart-friendly 2009 debut album, Hands, which was chock full of dancefloor-fillers like "Remedy" and "New in Town." New material like "Motorway" moves in a slightly darker, more laid-back direction, but never loses the magnetic sleekness she's renowned for.

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
