Late Night with Chelsea Lately

An attractive blond woman with cojones, comedian Chelsea Handler can be an acquired taste. As the host of Chelsea Lately over the past three or so years, she often comes off as insufferably annoying. But her undeniable wit, as she consistently embarrasses top rappers and shames touted actors into giving up interview gold, can also be as catchy as a deliciously naughty R. Kelly song, hooking viewers with or without their express consent. Her new book of essays, Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang, follows her debut Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea, and she has cleverly combined book touring duties with a schedule of comedy performances. She stops here today first for a book signing at 1 p.m. at Books Inc. at Opera Plaza (www.booksinc.net), and then for two live shows, the first of which, at Nob Hill Masonic Center, sold out instantly. Apparently Handler has grown on a lot of locals as well.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
