Justin Townes Earle: Show Preview

When you're a son or daughter of someone famous, you're often expected to live up to a parent's achievements. For Justin Townes Earle, son of country maverick Steve (and named for folk icon Townes Van Zandt), that's not a big deal: Ever since his self-released EP in '07, the younger Earle has blazed his own (admirable) path. True, father and son's styles have some affinities, but Earle's latest album, Nothing's Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now, is a further progression away. With overtones of both Memphis soul and blues, and nods to rockabilly, mariachi, and NYC jazz clubs, Earle's got his own bag, not his papa's.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
