Jonas Reinhardt: Show Preview

Wednesday, Feb 22 2012

Hear the music of Jonas Reinhardt and you'd be forgiven for thinking that it was made in some artist's commune in Cold War-era West Berlin. In fact, it's the nom-de-musique of contemporary San Francisco-based Krautrock enthusiast Jesse Reiner. Originally a solo project, Jonas Reinhardt has since become a full band with the help of Mi Ami's Damon Palermo, Trans Am's Phil Manley, and Citay's Diego Gonzales. Over the course of three albums, the group has covered a vast and Krauty territory that stretches as far into rhythmic experimentation à la Neu! as it does into Tangerine Dream-esque ambient abstraction. Always a live spectacle — they typically play with a battery of gear that would make Rick Wakeman jealous.

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
