Jazzy Jeff: Show Preview

Wednesday, Jan 19 2011

Game geeks may know him from his role in Activision's "DJ Hero," but the Magnificent Jazzy Jeff Townes started spinning Philly house parties way back in the early '80s and went on to win multiple Grammys with Will "The Fresh Prince" Smith. Despite massive mainstream success, the DJ battle champion and recording artist isn't known for spinning commercial music. That means Townes probably won't play any Drake when he spins Friday — unless he has a crazy Drake/Freddie Hubbard mash-up, which he just might (Dude takes the "jazzy" tag as seriously as he does mixing and scratching hardcore hip-hop). Underrated Virginia MC and former Rawkus Records artist Skillz joins Townes to spit his fluid braggadocios. Get ready to unleash your inner B-boy or B-girl at this hip-hop extravaganza.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
