Infinite Snakes

In our idealistic city, dance company vîv is a natural product of a desire for artistic autonomy. Begun in 2013 with eight women who wanted to shatter the hierarchies of the dance studio with a class format they refer to as "peer practice," in which participants work with the mutual understanding of adult artists, the company presents its first dance commission, Ouroboros. Choreographed by Kathleen Hermesdorf to an original musical score by Alfred Mathias, a team otherwise known as La ALTERNATIVA, the piece explores the ancient symbol of the ouroboros, the snake eating its own tail, as a representation of renewal, cyclical movement, and unity. The work examines the snake and the circle in all its forms, with muscular undulations, the image of shedding skin and recovering the body anew, and the creative process as a means of rebirth.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
