Indian Spring

Wednesday, Jun 5 2013

The May Ball happens in June, so why shouldn't the Rite of Spring be consigned to the same strange calendrical fate? Mark Morris, MacArthur Fellow and an 11-time honorary doctor, continues his balancing act on the line of tradition and transgression with the world premiere of his latest work of choreography, "Spring! Spring! Spring!," June 12-13, accompanied by jazz trio The Bad Plus, in its interpretation of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. The event is only part of the Ojai North! music and dance festival curated by Morris, with free and ticketed performances June 12-15 on the UC Berkeley campus. Mark Morris Dance Group will also perform Mosaic and United, The Bad Plus will accompany the silent film Salome, Morris will conduct songs by Henry Cowell and Charles Ives, and all shall be merry in the miscellany and madness of this late coming of spring.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
