Identity Festival: Show Preview

Wednesday, Aug 31 2011

Ask a friend for their favorite 16 bars, and if they answer with a house rhythm and not a pub crawl, then the Identity Festival will likely be their jam. Take an amphitheater, put a couple extra stages in the sweltering parking lot, add countless glow sticks and Day-Glo fabrics, roll in enough subwoofers to rearrange internal organs, and you have the setup for this electronic music tour. Some aspects of the crowd promise to be unabashedly retro, but the music is hyper-modern, featuring numerous facets of the post-techno digital diaspora. Among the two dozen artists performing are Nervo, L.A. Riots, the Eye, Le Castle Vania, Hercules and Love Affair, Holy Ghost!, Datsik, Nero, Booka Shade, and Kaskade, representing electro-house, wonky tech-funk, aggro dubstep, prog and deep house, and more.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
