Hudson Mohawke: Show Preview

Hudson Mohawke, born Ross Birchard, is a product of working-class Glasgow, Scotland, but his remixes and original productions — especially those on his 2009 Warp Records debut, Butter — belie a fascination with the beats, rhymes, and vocals of urban America. These elements don't quite sound the same once he's put his spin on them, however, often skittering off into fragmented electro territory. How fitting then that HudMo will share the decks with an icon like Just Blaze, the New York producer responsible for hits by Jay-Z, T.I., Eminem, and many more, for a funky transatlantic throwdown.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
