The long-awaited and sometimes controversial Whole Foods has opened in the Upper Haight. What steps is the chain store taking to blend in with the local Haight-Ashbury culture?

• Shirt? Shoes? No service

• All produce must be picked up off the ground and declared "okay"

• Spices come in dime bags

• Store managers really, really hate the war

• Bulk food section looks even better when you're stoned

• Cashiers ask you to put the money in their guitar cases

• Janitor has a pit bull

• Cops ask you to move if you're sitting in the aisles

• Shopping carts are already filled with cans, sleeping bag

• Something smells like urine
