Hope for Nature, Too

Wednesday, Dec 31 2008
If you walk your dog off-leash at Crissy Field, you're endangering Western snowy plovers. Sorry, that's just a fact. (See those birds your dog is having so much fun chasing? Those are plovers.) Learn more about plovers and other wild friends at the GGNRA Endangered Species Big Year awards. Then everyone joins in burning Julie MacDonald in effigy. Just kidding! (MacDonald was a Bush appointee and enemy of endangered species. She was forced to resign from the Fish and Wildlife Service for unscientific, pro-development behavior.) No, the actual effigy is of George W. Bush, the man using his lame-duck time to "weaken and limit the use of the wildlife protection law," according to the Humane Society. Kidding again! For serious this time: After the awards are given (all attendees get one), enjoy snacks, juice, and a walk out to look at the plovers. All the activities just go to show that the folks at GGNRA are sweet-hearted, upbeat, and dedicated, not furious effigy-burners like us.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
