Honey Sound System

Wednesday, Aug 26 2009

A hand-picked assortment of bright young DJs, musicians, and designers sharing a love of timeless disco, Honey Soundsystem began as a roving revelry and gradually worked its way up to a weekly gig. A grab-bag of queer nightlife surprises, each session invariably draws upon the talents of guest DJs (Italian disco phenom Bottin passes through next month), while residents like Pee Play, Jason Kendig, and Robot Hustle pump out head-turning early house and vocal disco. This week, the hometown honeys host a release party for the portrait issue of New York–based queer art zine Spank, with celebratory performances by local queen Vivvianne Forevermore and an installation by LA's Phyllis Navidad.

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
