Go Hack Yourself

Wednesday, Apr 2 2014

Look around you. Are there any 10- or 12-year-old kids nearby? If you answered yes, then probably all of those kids know more about jailbreaking an iPhone than you will ever know about anything. If that makes you sad, don't worry; you can still get a ticket to this weekend's JailbreakCon, a gathering for the world's iOS-hacking community. It's a small conference, and attendees usually get to spend time talking to the speakers and special guests one-on-one or in small groups. The Sunday lineup is particularly interesting, featuring speakers like pod2g, nitoTV (one of the great Apple TV hackers), and Jay Freeman, or Saurik, developer of Cydia, a software installation application used by more than 30 million jailbreakers. He's quite famous. If you have a burning desire to get involved with the jailbreaking movement, the convention is a great way to educate yourself. It could also be a great place to meet entrepreneurs and up-and-coming tech leaders.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
