G2 = Guitar Quartet

Classical 102.1 KDFC is the KALX of classical radio stations: It knows it's rad. It doesn't have to compare itself to other classical stations. KDFC DJs play the cream of the crop, such as Sir Neville Marriner conducting the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. So we're recommending the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet partly because it's a KDFC–sponsored event. But the quartet is kinda superstar-ish on its own. The four guitarists perform music by composers including Aaron Copland and Count Basie; some of it sounds downright experimental (Ian Krouse, you crazy bastard!), but these four gorgeous acoustic instruments never get punk-confrontational. It's more about the insanity of the players' picking speed and the unusual rhythmic layering they get with this setup.

    Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
