Freestyle Fellowship: Show Preview

Wednesday, Dec 14 2011

Project Blowed has been an integral part of hip-hop culture in Los Angeles for the past 17 years — it's an open-mic night and community gathering place in the city's Leimert Park neighborhood. The event is thought of as a building block for several of L.A.'s most positive rappers and rap crews, including Freestyle Fellowship, which recently released its fourth studio album, The Promise. The album is led by "We Are," an impressively tongue-twisting single built on a drum 'n' bass beat. In S.F. this week, Freestyle Fellowship will round out its party with vital Project Blowed artists Abstract Rude (who co-produced PB's first compilation album in 1994), the deadly female rapper Medusa, and Tabernacle MCz (of "F*ck Yo Favorite Rapper" fame).

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
