For its 34th annual jamboree of creative functionality (or functional creativity), the venerable Celebration of Craftswomen introduces a feisty wrinkle into the talent-laden smorgasbord of handmade pieces encompassing furniture and clothing, jewelry, handbags, ceramics, and artwork: film. It's reassuring to note that film remains a means of personal expression and an endeavor of crafts(wo)manship, even in the digital age. The popular "Lunafest" program of shorts by female filmmakers boasts top-notch short stories and real-life miniatures, from Self-Portrait with Cows Going Home and Other Works (an evocative profile of photographer Sylvia Plachy) to Lunch Date, in which a young woman gets terrible relationship news by proxy (her gutless boyfriend's adolescent brother). The evening attraction is East Bay filmmaker Kristy Guevara-Flanagan's irreverent yet serious pop-culture exegesis, Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines. A benefit for the Women's Building, this screening promises to be raucous, inspiring and, yes, celebratory. 'Tis the season, after all.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
