Four on the Floor

Wednesday, Sep 1 2010
Imagine Monty Python or the Kids in the Hall in drag – oh wait. Those guys were constantly in drag, never mind. The Front Row is a sketch comedy troupe whose show reminds us of those other, older all-man groups, but the Front Row is all woman. (From the FR website: “About f’ing time, right?” Right.) Its narrative, absurdist, sitcom-type scenarios often involve the four players, Jennifer Keller, Lauren Davidson, Lisa Quiriconi, and Layla Rudy donning the same kind of bad wigs we’re used to seeing pointed in the opposite gender direction. The ladies must have a whole closetful of short wigs and dumb t-shirts, those being, after all, the universal visual signs of manhood. At tonight’s show, guests Jesse Elias and Donny Divanian join the quartet onstage, and the evening is hosted by Kelly Anneken.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
