Former President of Botswana

Botswana, as a country, is dramatic and rich: It houses a big chunk of the Kalahari Desert, and diamond mining is a major industry. But maybe you know how it goes in landlocked, recently independent nations? Currently, Botswana has tens of thousands of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and a general life expectancy of 49 years, the shortest in the world. A lot of people say it could have been worse without its former President, His Excellency Festus Mogae, who's been praised high and low for being level-headed and for making antiretroviral drugs universally free. So, what have you done with the past ten years?

    Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday.
